Codemasters GRID
When it comes to racing video games, I have an open mind to every single new title that is ever released. Being an Xbox 360 guy, my mouth is watering, my palms are sweating and my heart is beating in anticipation for Forza 3 which comes out exclusively for Microsoft supporters next week. The Forza franchise has really done for the Xbox 360 video game console what Gran Turismo did for original Playstation, PS2 games and Sony. Being that Gran Turismo will most likely go down in history as the best simulation racing title for Sony, I wanted to highlight a game that didn’t get enough enthusiasm when released earlier in the year, Codemasters GRID. This title takes the average racer and brings some new elements which have become common place like drifting.
I got to play this game on Xbox when my brother bought it and I was impressed. This is not a pure simulator like Gran Turismo, which is why it holds so much fun value when playing. The drifting dynamic is very fast and at first hard to deal with. But that’s drifting and the developers at Codemaster really nailed how tough it can be to slide corners at speed. On the same coin, once a gamer nails a drift course and understands how to maneuver their car, replays like the one shown below become addictive to collect. My brother became a course pro at the harbor track and smoked me every single time I went around him. I started calling him the video game console King of Smoke.
<--For All Major Video Game Consoles
Like other great race titles, GRID brings to life amazing vehicles, beautiful course locations set throughout Japan, San Francisco, DC and Detroit, an array of high octane challenges and of course aggressive online play. I actually like when racing multiplayer games have an arcade twist because playing on a video game console is supposed to be fun. Sometimes simulators can be so real just getting around a track without wrecking becomes work. With arcade racers, it is more about just jumping behind the digital driver’s seat and hammering down the gas.
I was reminded of how cool this title is when looking through Bolluck Mall’s video game collection at http://www.bolluckmall.com/. From cover to gameplay, this is a stand out racer any fan of fast moving four wheel action would enjoy. Going in knowing it is not a pure simulator will help in discovering the beauty of this video game console sleeper.
